I remember watching a behind-the-scenes documentary detailing how Jaws was going to be much more overtly brutal in the shark attack scenes, only for the crew to be forced to take a more minimalist approach due to issues with the shark animatronic.

Personally, I feel the end result was better than the original plan, largely because of how effectively the film uses one's fear of the unknown to build tension; it also makes the shark's first full appearance during the chum-throwing scene far more impactful.
