How long can they go between going up for air? Do they sleep in short segments or are they able to get air and then sleep for a long period of time? I didn't know this is what I'd be fascinated with today but DAMMIT I NEED TO KNOW

Only in the summer. During colder months they crawl onto land (Antarctic) and bury themselves under 6 feet of snow, where they hibernate till spring.
