In the Philippines, this is commonly known as 'Makahiya'. The closest translation in English would be 'shy', because it reacts immediately when it is touched :-)))

In Hawai’i, these grow everywhere, as a kid we loved finding a patch and closing them all. I've heard it called shy plant before, but I don't remember what we usually called them.
