Contrary to legend, Michelangelo did not paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling lying on his back. He built a special scaffolding so he could do it standing up and bending backwardpic.twitter.com/t1UK5V9RjF

So that whole lesson plan I had where students lie on their backs and color in a portion of the Sistine Chapel taped under their desks was bullshit?

He did have assistants for various tasks but the actual painting was done by him and him alone.

This is what I could quickly pull up, I do know all painters of the day had assistants but some of the actual whole paintings were by different artists, like the 2 cute cherubs, was not done by Michaelangelo.https://www.britannica.com/topic/Sistine-Chapel …

From what I had researched, there were at least four other painters present yes, but that Michelangelo ultimately wanted and did the painting himself. Of course, if there was some small parts done by others, heck, doesn't change too much I would think.

Your right overall he did the majority of the work and that's why history attributes the body of work to him I know Raphael did some so there was other famous painters involved.

It was a special scaffolding, but I'm pretty sure he did most of hit on is back. He had a special made hat too, that had candles set around the brim so he could see what he was doing in the latter part of the day.

The Michelangelo myth always ran false with me because I could never draw while on my back. Finally...vindication 😉
