The Albino “Ghost’ Redwood tree is unable to produce chlorophyll, and so has white needles instead of the normal green. It survives by getting sugar through roots of nearby trees.pic.twitter.com/LNs64PsAHO

Because it lacks chlorophyll, it is called the “ghost” of California’s coastal forests

The Albino Redwood is dependent on the other trees to survive, I don't think any particular race is dependent on another in the same way unless they're depending on a more tech. advanced race to not obliterate them.

I think the comment was aimed at the fact that whites rely (and have relied) upon the labor and exploitation of non-whites to survive (and then act like it was their hard work that made them rich/successful/prosperous)

I can understand that perspective. The point I'm making is that there's a difference between thriving and surviving.

There are a few papers out there.. and anecdotal stories. These trees are rare. Some say (aka Wikipedia) they are beneficial as they soak up heavy metals (!) but I haven’t seen the data. Need to do a proper lit. search.. but, can you imagine hiking and seeing one these??

That would be so cool! I think it would almost be spooky! Intriguing, the symbiosis would need to happen quite early during germination I guess.. it makes me wonder about the microbiome.

the coolest thing about learning about them was the huge realization that forests are almost entirely cooperative and like a huge family, when i grew up I was told lots about competition to survive and the existence of these fugal systems smashes that old belief! tree fam!!
