I met her once in the Finnish embassy in London when I was a kid. It was a prize for a letter writing competition with the Puffin Club. She drew all the kids there a picture of their requested character. Mine was Snufkin.

I got a letter from Tove Jansson (well, presumably her) when I was a little kid after I wrote to her about my Moomin fandom. Wonder if I still have it somewhere.
-
She indeed wrote every answer to fan letters herself. In one she told a kid that the husband of Fillyjonk is an explorer in jungles.

Always a touch of darkness to the animation. Despite the big open friendly style of the Moomins, I really felt a sinister tone.

Exactly what makes it so good!
