I was about to say so long as is hangs around leaves it could be easily confused for a pink flower.

Nah, too tiny and visible for a flower. I'd say another possibility is to scare off the predators, cause bright color usually means the creature is poisonous.

I might add - red/green color blindness in predators means that being pink and being green is not that big of a difference
