I don’t think buried in hot Cheetos is a punishment per se

This is one of my favorite books because of how visually disruptive and spectacular it is.

I just realized, I never wondered where the water came from to fill that lake in the 9th circle of Hell (that froze over by Satan's flapping wings). I see water trickling down into Hell as Dante & Virgil exit Hell, ascending to Paradise. But what is that sea the water comes from?

If I remember for Dante purgatory was a. Island at he opposite of earth So purgatory is Australia and water the Indian or pacific ocean

What a coincidence. I watched Se7en last night and I think they talked about "Dante's Inferno" in the middle of the film

Is the first picture the 9th circle with Judas, Brutus, and Cassius? I have no idea what the middle picture is, but the third looks like sloth/wrath.
-
The first and second pictures are of Dante and Virgil entering Purgatory by climbing down Satan's body to where his clawed feet stick out into the other realm.
-
Ah, I never read the Purgatory part of the Divine Comedy (and it's been a while since I last read any classics, honestly.). Thanks for the clarification!
