        Where I live, in south of France we called them processionnaires caterpillar. They are very dangerous for humans and can easily kill dogs. So, the flamethrower is justified.

        Did my research, this is Thaumetopoea pityocampa. They are dangerous and a tree pest. They have numerous natural controls, such as birds and parasitic wasps. Unfortunately people also use excessive pesticides to get rid of 'em, which is always bad news.

        I still think they're really cool. How hazardous they are makes me like 'em even more, animals capable of chemical warfare are really cool! Just wish I could find a way to make people like insects more. : /

        I’m Culver City I’ve seen a weird amount this year perhaps due to all the rain I believe they turn into moths have to say I’ve “accidentally” stepped on one since this happened last week oops
