Why aren’t the sheep on stilts.
-
Because they are cloven-hoofed, their hoofs can spread out to provide more friction/grip/traction even on moory ground. By contrast, it makes me wonder whether stilts would not sink in even deeper than boots & cause the wearers to get stuck more often. Of course, less mud sticks.

I was trying to be funny but this is a very informative reply.

The offspring of these disheveled shepherds would become spinners, referred to as rumpled stilts’ kin.

close to where i live (South west France) lost traditions but pretty well famous

Apparently they were used in the 18th and 19th centuries. I've always wondered about the claim that stilts are somewhat of an advantage in marshland. I imagine they would get stuck in mud or in branches all the time. https://www.wikiwand.com/fr/%C3%89chassiers_landais …

i tried them as a child in some festival (though im not anyhow related by family to landes at all) almost broke my coccyx

-
I had short ones made by my grandpa. They were surprisingly fun and easy to use on smooth terrain, and terrible on dirt trails or off-trail.
