I once entered a house just like this. I stood next to the bed for a full minute before I realized what the brown lump was. A perfectly mummified cat, curled up in peaceful slumber as the summers and winters came and went outside the window.

I found an abandoned house and inside was an empty pepsi can that had been laying on It's side for so long that it had a thick layer of dust on its side.

It begs the question as to why. Did the owners die with no debt, and either no heirs or heirs who are not interested? Are they forgotten holiday houses? Or did the owners move away, unable or unwilling to sell, and the house was forgotten within family history? So intriguing...

We used to visit abandoned farmhouses in Alberta, strangest thing I saw was looking into a kitchen; the table was still set for a meal, coat hung up with keys on a hook next to it. It’s like they just up and left. Spooky.
