catacombs are underground cemeteries and i don't see a single pile of bones in these pics chief
-
oh so it’s just a network of underground tunnels not actual catacombs...
-
"Catacombs" aren't always cemeteries. That's the most popular use, but it also just mean a series of twisty, cramped tunnels. I've seen the word used both ways, and just checked a dictionary!
-
which one
-
http://dictionary.com , the most venerable of all dictionaries, hahah. More seriously, it's just common use. I read a lot of fantasy, and I've seen it a bunch of times. :)
-
Yeah! That's also what I found, but as mentioned before, in origin catacombs should be underground cemeteries! Anyways, it's good to know that they are not always what we think!

I got lost once in Saint Agatha's catacombs in Malta. Those had some bones and tetric light, and it was a bit stressful, specially being a Poe's reader!
-
nice. what an experience that must have been
-
It was cool indeed. Actually I think it wasn't possible to really get lost there, but for a while, when I was returning to the exit, I didn't remember what was the way I used to reach there, I panicked... and I just started to run.

This so intrigued me, I had to look up more information of the Odessa catacombs:http://www.thebohemianblog.com/2013/10/urban-exploration-odessa-catacombs_20.html …

Well, I guess I need to give video games more credit- the seemingly endless underground tunnels always felt impossible and unrealistic, but apparently 1,500 miles of them exist in just one instance. Next I’ll learn there are actually thousands of lit candles everywhere in them.

Why don't we have any good catacombs in America? We should get some installed, they look cool.
