I wonder whether those decisions were made thinking: "We'll make it the color it should be and maybe that will come through," or (I think more likely) "What colors will create the effect we want on monochrome film?"
-
I wondered the same. I know pastel green was often used as a colour because it looked whiter on camera than actual white
-
Green carries luminance (light) and red and blue can actually dim what comes through. (Sorry if you already knew this. I just barf up snippets of video color theory sometimes.)
-
I'm vaguely aware of this thanks to the Sin City commentary, where it was discussed that red looks drab grey in black and white, and *something* on TCM where a famous "red dress" was actually yellow or something. Always makes me think of the "which dress" gag in Ed Wood

Why don't ya color in some Charles Addams cartoons while you're at it? Add some blue skies?
-
Addams did work in color. These are not “colored in” they are his original watercolors.pic.twitter.com/PH8n8ZpWJ2
-
I did not know this! Thanks for posting these C. Addams watercolors.
-
Also note Gomez was always designed as a POC.
-
Wasn't Gomez supposed to be a Spaniard? I often wondered why Fester was so pale.
-
They came up with that on the tv show, but Addams drew him brown decades before that. Show canon may have nothing to do with Addams original concepts.
-
More canon: Addams didn't name Pugsley. The TV people asked his name and got... "Pubert". It was rejected.
