        They cling to the undersides of leaves so the fungus can scatter its spores. It's nowhere near as dramatic as any zombie media makes it out to be.

        Yeah, from either thirst/hunger or the mushrooms toxicity. However healthy ants are capable of recognizing infected ones and will carry them away before they do more harm.
