My uncle told me the legend that if you swim to the very bottom there you will find a mirror/portal that will take you to a some sort of parallel universe or that there is a creature down there that is similiar to Loch Ness.

I guess it can matter. Because with a High Tech deep sea diving suit or a mini submarine it could be quite possible to reach the ground of Baikal lake but be not able to see the portal.
