        If I am not mistaken, the position of the facial muscles and the gape of the mouth makes this a yawn with little to no trust towards the photographer

        Had a husky-lab mix that looked exactly like this when she yawned, scared the tar out of most visitors to the house. Eye contact is also a very important thing for dominance in dogs.
