In Japanese Folklore, Ōkubi are giant decapitated heads which fly in the sky or hide in barns. If you encounter an Ōkubi, it is a sign of impending disaster, which may be a typhoon, earthquake, tsunami, or firepic.twitter.com/9PFFJcvIje

Yes, but if you don't get one of those (which you usually don't), they don't mean anything, and the Okubi go away and it was all fine. This is a strangely Japanese attitude, I think.

Isn't a giant flying decapitated head disaster enough? FLYING DECAPITATED HEAD: I prophesy that you will be bothered by a flying decapitated head! VICTIM: Um, okay

I haven't seen head for 3 years and admittedly haven't been caught up in any of those disasters you mentioned.

Because a giant flying decapitated head hiding in your barn isn't a big enough disaster already.

I’d be interested in seeing the kanji for the ō — the kubi is neck, but I can’t think of an ‘o’ that I know that would be, like...indicative of a decapitated non-neck?

        Looks like it's the 大 kanji: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%8Ckubi  "Big-neck?"

Many Americans saw Okubi just before Trump was elected.

Kinda self fulfilling. The disaster is the giant decapitated body possibly hiding in your barn. Or floating in the sky.pic.twitter.com/lJ2Fk73NmB
