You should see the inside. The cave slopes down for hundreds of feet with giant halls and enourmous fallen columns over head.pic.twitter.com/c2rJIx21mL

Are there Goblin Archers or a Balrog down there?
-
And this photo does not do it justice!

This path takes like fifty million years to walk down in real life.

The angle of this photo is so cool! It's truly not as scary in reality.

that's really cool... also, has better road surfacing than my street in the UK. In fact, most streets in the UK...I mean, all streets bar the ones in London.

I have been there. I carried my chunk of a toddler the whole way. Thank God for the elevator back up to the surface.

Only in a America. A giant drive-in cave.
-
It's a paved footpath. No bikes (or cars) allowed. This photo shows people walking on it, for scale. https://midwestwanderer.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/160116_NM_Carlsbad-Caverns-4350.jpg …

Much better! Thank you! Still not sure about all that pavement, but my that's to make it handicapped accessible?!
-
It's too steep to be considered accessible, so they say it's not for wheelchairs or strollers. It is, however, the only way in or out if the elevator system in the Visitor Center fails, so I guess it has to be at least possible to wheel something up it. https://www.nps.gov/cave/planyourvisit/accessibility.htm?fullweb=1 …
