If you grew up on boiled-to-death brussels sprouts that isn't hard to believe. Once you learn to saute them with a little salt, maybe some capers or a few drops of Worcestershire sauce it's a different story.

Oh, oh, try roasting them. Specifically, chop up some bacon, cook until crispy, then pour the bacon fat over the sprouts, toss with salt, and roast at 345, covered, for about thirty minutes, until you can easily stick a fork in them.

THIS. This is what I'm going to try tomorrow.

If you want a bit of sweet, add some dried cranberries when you're roasting. As long as the sprouts are covered, they'll steam and rehydrate.

I do roast sometimes, have never tried that - but I'm going to :) Thank you

Source on this? Only thing I can find around is that the cross is to assist in cooking.

Mother told me, the cross a mark of Jesus and was added to help cooking and stop the sprout from splitting to pieces when cooking. But what did she know.......she skipped school as much as she could. And worked on a farm picking them. x Merry Christmas.
