Oh, yea. I remember it. There was once an internet site collecting and listing all the japanese folklore creatures. But it appears, that it is gone. Can still be accessed via waybackmachine though. Site was called The Obakemono Project.

my grandma just says to respect the Inari (Fox god) and the temples. The only common folklore spirits that we widely know or talk about nowadays is the kappa
