Literally, it means something like "Shit Uncle".

Tió means log in Catalan. Tio means uncle in castellian. Is not the same but it could be a false friend for an English speaker

Caga Tió is only the song. The tradition is based on feeding a trunk during the pre-Christmas period. The name that receives the trunk is El Tió.

I feel FURIOUS when someone calls him 'cagatió'.

When our kids were younger we went to the forest every year to search for it. I used to hide it with leaves while my wife made our kids look on another side. When they finally found it they were happy as only children can be.
-
It's a family tradition, not everybody do the same.
