I remember this Xmas special. I had it on VHS. It was fantastic! And a musical precursor to Toy Story. ...but with a dark twist...the toys die if they are seen out-of-place by a human (or cat). In fact, there was a pile of "dead" toys kept in the closet. Pretty horrifying!
