Better than the actual manga just by leaving the last 2 pages out. I really think explaining the whole thing ruined the story as it took out the scariest part of this story. The unknown.

If it were almost any other artist I'd agree with you, but Ito's artwork does the horrific and grotesque such justice that what fear is lost from the reveal is more than made up for in existential dread the reveal often represents.

When it comes to his other work I completely agree. Ito has mastered the page turn to a tee and it often pushes his stories to the next level just as they reach their climax. (1/2)

In this specific case though he uses the page turn after the very end way after the stories climax just as the immediate danger has ended for the protagonist (as he is doomed anyway) and it just ends up releasing all that built up tension which was crafted so masterfully. (2/2)
