I'm guessing Mifune's terror in that shot isn't entirely due to him acting.

Don't they use hollowed out arrows and wires connected to the walls in situations like this?

I've heard this fact before but it never ceases to amaze. Mifune was one dedicated actor. Also, Throne of Blood, in my opinion, is the very best film adaptation of Macbeth.
