Wow. So this inspired spike lee in do the right thing?

It did! It's one of the most influential films ever made. The director, Charles Laughton, a legendary actor, directed it but critics and audiences hated it and he was so depressed he quit directing. This is the only film he ever made. Now it's considered a masterpiece.
