Goyas painting has to be one of the most terrifying pieces of art in human history... Master piece!

Makes it even creepier/cooler that it was in his house, dude just wanted to paint something one day and this was born - genius
-
You're right! The creepiest thing is that he painted just for himself! Not with intention to show it to the public! It was his inner Demons!

I spent a long time looking at the Goya one in Madrid. Very powerful. First time I've seen the Rubens painting. I'm in the minority here, but I actually find that more upsetting. Maybe because it's a child and Saturn looks so much more human.
-
I agree with u 100%. Goya's has no trace of civility Saturn barely looks human & the child's anguish has been removed reduced to a piece of meat. Ruben's u see the child's pain. Saturn would look civilized if not eating his child, wolf in sheep's clothing.
-
That being said if I was to put one on my wall it would be Goya's. I just find his painting style more my to my taste.
-
Oh yes, it’s stunning - the use of colour, the madness in Saturn’s eyes, the starkness of the half-eaten body... Although I’m not an artist or connoisseur, I could hardly tear myself (gulp) away from it.

Saturn did this after hearing a prophecy that one of his children would destroy him. He ate them all so he could keep them in one place and not conspire against him. Zeus gathered his power and eventually sprang forth with the other Olympians, finally fulfilling the prophecy.
