    It is amusing to me that at the highest rung in the academic ladder (PhD) for a student, collaborations are actively encouraged. However, at all the other lower rungs in academia (Masters, Undergrad, HS), collaborations are either limited or actively discouraged.

    Choose your problems well. Many times I have spoken to people who have no real idea why they are studying what they are. Introspection can’t be rushed. In the rush to publish paper after paper, who has time? I think we should breathe, write fewer papers, and have them matter more

    Choose well. As I hope the examples I have given illustrate, there are important crypto-for-privacy problems out there, and they are quite diverse. Choose your problems well. Let values inform your choice. Many times I have spoken to people who seem to have no real idea why they are studying what they are.     An interesting aspect CITL stumbled on is that you can quickly tell whether or not a piece of software was already fuzzed (by the developers). For offensive targeting it’s a neat ‘tell’. It says ‘Stop and move on to lower hanging (unfuzzed) fruit’. Appreciate these reports!

    Let's try something new and document a bit of a failure😅 I briefly fuzzed the Windows t2embed.dll library (handles EOT fonts in e.g. PPTs in PowerPoint) and didn't find any significant bugs. Has it been beaten to death by efforts like ? :)

    I feel like recommendation engines for platforms like Spotify prevent me from developing new tastes just because they have _profiled_ me for a particular music taste. Maybe what's needed is for them to have these calibration phases where they suggest taste-breaking music.
