It couldn’t be more simple: the president was afraid he was going to lose the next election, so he decided to cheat. This is a clear abuse of power, a misuse of the office of the presidency. Trump thinks he’s above the law—and it’s the Senate’s job to tell him he's not.

We forced a fourth vote on @ChrisVanHollen’s amendment to require Chief Justice Roberts to rule on motions to subpoena witnesses and documents, and to rule on any assertion of privilege. But Senate Republicans voted for a cover-up and a sham trial.

Today’s 51-49 vote for no witnesses, no evidence, hence no real trial makes next Wednesday’s baked-in vote to acquit wholly anticlimactic: fake trial = fake acquittal = no exoneration at all.
