I totally agree this is a challenge to science communication to pick the solid reports (preprints) among many others to communicate to the public, but the authors should also know what they are doing. Be less hypothesis driven and publish responsibly. (n/n)

In China there are not many such people yet. There’s the snake paper, which was biased because the authors know there are snakes on that market. No scientist will be convinced by their suggestion but the (unqualified) media made a big deal of it (2/n)

Wow. This thread shows how conspiracies circulating in different cultures correlate with their pre-existing biases. I read many rumors on Chinese social media, but the HIV theory on Twitter is a new one - these are people who don’t trust genetic exp. to start with, right? (1/n)

They publish results within days, while it takes me months and even years to prepare a single manuscript. People are working so hard to help people with their scientific expertise. These scientists have my respect.

I used to be cynical about basic science helping people in the real world, but recent research with 2019-nCoV really changed my mind. People act so fast to analyze the genomes, the single cell RNA seq data, and are already expeirmenting with cells infected with the isolated virus
