I am an armed Veteran with a pitbull rescue mutt at my house. If someone breaks into my house they will have a surprise waiting for them.

@the_watcher, appreciate your spirit of self defense. Not a gun owner myself, but went shooting for the first time not too long ago. A couple of things I want to address from your tweets: - Personally, I'm not too interested in the 60's. 70's, or even up to the early 00s. /11 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

- The world was a lot worse on almost every metric, worldwide, the real miracle is how far we have come as a society. - Im interested in how crime rates change from one year to another, as its very easy to get used to life getting better, and much worse when it goes the other way

- Considering the majority of these victims of violent crime are underserved and/or poc, I would think that any progressive would be sensitive to the a negative change, and don't understand talking about Dan White in this thread? Why? /3 (missed 2)

- additionally, the pivot to your own protection methods? Aren't we trying to figure out to make people's lives better here? You're arguing crime is down and/or not a big deal, I think its more complex/alarming than that. - The general populace of SF and esp tourism are down /4

- Seems relevant when we discuss data of total events that less people and less tourists will change the numerator. - Valencia IS a diff universe than it was when I started partying there in '09. Don't think its better in the last year and half (tho I love when it closes to cars)

- But FiDi? Soma? Downtown? Ghost towns, major drops in retail and everything else. Yes, much of that is WFH, but not all. And when/if WFH subsides a bit, I don't think that things are going to just come back. Seems unlikely it will. /5,6

I think that rents will go down and the people who moved here primarily for economic reasons will leave. They will be replaced with a younger and poorer demographic who appreciate what The City has to offer. We will have fewer Michelin star restaurants and more street fairies.

I think this is ultimately what many Californians want: downsizing. So they tolerate so much bad stuff because at least it will get people to leavepic.twitter.com/XT5zsk7Uvr

Intrastate migration to CA has been down for quite a while, but we continue to attract the best and brightest from all over the world 78% of tech workers in the Bay Area are immigrants! And they have brought so much vibrancy with them. CA would be really suffering without them

I agree but how long will they stay in California?

Hard to tell. They will stay as long as their quality of life is higher here than elsewhere. San Francisco is quite a great place if you have money. Though I spent the weekend in Manhattan and the contrast was more extreme than I expected. We need to literally clean up our act.
