If present trends continue, about half of the long-distance rural routes on the island will close within a decade or two. Our situation in New England is better at the outset than the situation in Hokkaido & has better prospects in the long-term, too. Even our topography is gentler (no volcanoes here!), and our winters milder! Residents and visitors here have much to gain--let's build!
