Every Boston rail line is suffering from deferred maintenance. Trains are also super old.

they're also frickin expensive to get on. in my neck of the woods, you can go across town AND BACK on a light rail for $2.50 if you're an adult, $1.25 if you're young or disabled or something.

OH, I should also mention that it's a timed ticket system. That 2.50 lets you get on any bus or train for the next 2 and a half hours, 5.00 gets you a day pass that's good until 3am.
