Every Boston rail line is suffering from deferred maintenance. Trains are also super old.

they're also frickin expensive to get on. in my neck of the woods, you can go across town AND BACK on a light rail for $2.50 if you're an adult, $1.25 if you're young or disabled or something.

$2.25 for a ride is pretty cheap from what I've seen. Way more expensive in NY, London, Tokyo, etc

London and Tokyo are incomparable--they charge by distance (and the shorter distances in Tokyo are $1.50 ~ $2.00)
