the icon is for transit in general, not trains in particular--which almost always means buses operating in mixed traffic
-
a bus in mixed traffic can't go any faster than the cars it's sharing the road with--throw in all the stops (sometimes as close together as 1/10 mile), each of which requires waiting for passengers to pay AND waiting to get back into traffic, and you end up w terrible speeds
-
If you want to close the car/transit gap, just do what Lexington/UK do. Have multiple stops along the busiest road IN the lane.
-
Bonus points if some of these stops happen to be in areas where lanes vary by time of day, and the bus blocks the only available lane during rush hour.

I'm not opposed to stops in-lane but they should be on less-used roads, not main arteries

It's on our femoral artery.
