Pretty much the only thing we hype harder and suck at more than LRT in this country is BRT, please don't let yourself get memed on like this

I may be wrong but I get the impression that on both fronts the reason we suck so bad is everything is about cutting corners. I mean, half the time BRT is suggested as a corner-cut replacement for light rail, which leads to even more corners being cut and it just being a 1/2

bus lane with frequent service if that, and most of the time it gets reduced to a bus with limited stops and better bus shelters with no other improvements (see the Charlotte Sprinter) 2/2

To this day I'm pretty sure there's only one legitimate BRT in the US, and that's the Orange Line in LA. Everything else is some watered down skip-stop bus with fancy shelters (if that).

I think I hate both of those projects tho bc instead of designating any road space for buses, they converted rail ROWs to asphalt and ran buses on them JUST BUILD A FUCKING TRAIN

XD XD XD XD Never did understand the point of projects that do that. Didn't they make plans to do that in Staten Island too with the North Shore right of way? Like- why not just renovate it for trains? Wouldn't it be a better investment in the long run w operations considered?

We can install new tracks if they gotta share the road with cars but we can't spruce up existing already-exclusive rail ROWs except by paving them

Can't imagine a more effective way to turn opinion against rail

Yeah. Remind me again of the point of the Cambridgeshire guided busway instead of just reopening the railway?
