After it became obvious that I would need to launch a full-scale invasion of the British home isles to get my war score high enough to take (not even all of) their West Indies colony, I scaled down my demands until they accepted.

Also--Austria was allied to Britain, and since they were far from the war, their enthusiasm stayed very high, making it hard for me to negotiate... ...so I landed 33k troops in Venice, captured it, then began taking Austrian forts in northern Italy, advancing on Vienna
