They signed a military cooperation pact in 2006 against the USA and Israel; the Iranian defense minister at the time said "Iran considers Syria's security its own security, and we consider our defense capabilities to be those of Syria." Knock it off dude

The fact is, Russia is much stronger than Iran and is currently involved in Syria. If Russia and Iran are disagreeing on a subject, Assad will follow Russia--therefore, a Russian puppet.
