A much better comparison is to Saddam in 2002: a cruel leader depending on who you ask, but the war to oust him cost thousands of lives, led to a civil war, and then concluded with an Iran-dominated government. You sure you want another episode like that?

Comparisons to Libya are also pretty appropriate--no matter how wicked Gaddafi really was, it's obvious that the country is in much worse shape now than it was before his ouster.

Assuming he isn't dumb (a very generous assumption), he's referring to Iranian involvement.

If Russia and the West will leave Syria, Assad will become an Iranian puppet. He would have no choice, even if he doesn't want to.I'm not justifying the attack, but that's reality.
-
Assad is already very much in the Iranian camp, he can't "become" an Iranian puppet if he already is one
-
He's a Russian puppet right now, which has some common interests with Iran but also significant differences.

They signed a military cooperation pact in 2006 against the USA and Israel; the Iranian defense minister at the time said "Iran considers Syria's security its own security, and we consider our defense capabilities to be those of Syria." Knock it off dude
-
The fact is, Russia is much stronger than Iran and is currently involved in Syria. If Russia and Iran are disagreeing on a subject, Assad will follow Russia--therefore, a Russian puppet.

I truly believe that to engage with professional war apologists on the plane of ideas is to grant them too much credit. They're operating on the plane of personal interests; war and regime change offer opportunities for unjust enrichment, full stop.

Why is Joe Biden's son on the board of a Ukranian gas company? Are we to believe that he's a gas expert?
