How much would the fare be on a train so luxurious
It depends on how far you go, but if you ride the entire length of the train's route, it'll cost $30.74 (3270 yen = 1820 base fare + 1450 seat reservation, since all seats on this train need to be reserved)
If you have a JR Rail Pass (only available for tourists) then it's free (you still need to make a reservation and get a ticket, but you won't have to pay anything to do so)
Btw, the full distance is roughly 56 miles--if you were to ride the same distance on a conventional train (pictured), you would only pay the base fare of 1820 yen ($17.09)pic.twitter.com/33DoKnW5ld
It takes just under 2 hours on local trains (and you need to change trains once), and it takes just under 1 hour 40 minutes on the tourist train (direct route)
this is very interesting. i'll have to try amtrak one day as i've never been on a train.
Amtrak is a rough way to start...better than nothing (maybe) but def not what train travel is meant to be about
preferable over a very rough plane ticket to just a few states over haha
Ever travelled on the california zephyr?
sure have!
On bucket list but heard it could go either way
it's got some really great views, but it's also a loooong ride...and if you don't have a very expensive bedroom, then sleeping can be difficult
