I would love to quote comparable figures for Boston or NYC, but most data that I find is only concerned with commutes to work--what a stupid obsession! Is there anyone out there whose only travel is during their commute?
The best info I can find so far is at the state level rather than the metropolitan level: the Massachusetts Travel Survey (2011) - 49.6% car (driving) - 19% walking - 18.9% car (passenger) - 4% train - 3.6% bus - 2.8% school bus - 1.1% bicycle - 0.4% taxi
a few more: - 0.3% paratransit - 0.3% "other" - 0.1% ferry - 0.1% motorbike (driver) - 0.0% motorbike (passenger)
higher!
