In a thread full of all the horrible things that NYC life entails--and calling out the NYC subway as the garbage fire that it is--it's still impossible to deny how much of a relief it is to not have to drive to work.

I will never (ever) romanticize New York City. I despise the place and a lot of what it stands for vis-a-vis cities in general. That scammer shithole has done more damage to the American concept of "what a city is" than any other. But I will certainly romanticize cities!

The thing that you must remember is that New York is just one way to build a city, one way to live in a city. Even within the USA, there are many other ways--let alone outside it!

Even with that said, it may be that cities aren't for you...but you shouldn't leap to that conclusion just because you hated New York. New York is awful! There's plenty of money to be made there, but it's just not worth it, imo

Replying to @380kmh
what are some cities in the US that don't suck but still have good public transit?

Really not sure I can name any in the US...there are so few examples of good public transit here, period, no matter what you think of the city. Maybe Seattle or Portland? Houston's been getting a lot better with their transit too.
