Is there much point of BRT though *unless* you run it away from dedicated ROW? If it's a captive system surely you might as well have light rail.

Busses have the tendency to bunch up over time. This is not a problem for a good subway system.

they have that tendency due to running in mixed traffic to greater or lesser extent--subway lines which also have mixed-traffic segments, like Boston's Green Line, are also prone to bunching up over time

Ah. In SF they have some dedicated bus lanes, but I thought bunching was an inevitably caused by traffic lights as much as mixed traffic. Seems like the complexity of timing traffic lights to coincide perfectly approached impossible as more busses and lights are added.

The Green Line is only mixed traffic insofar as it also stops at traffic lights. A ROW that has to share signals with the rest of the road isn't really dedicated--it's only about 50% of the way there
