well right but the gap of multiple millennia and the ignorance of the original techniques would both have been avoided by preserving the original (can't say the same for the third)

Ancient Greek temples and sacred statues were as garishly painted as Hindu ones

The were painted, sure, but I think the colours would have been better modulated than in some of the reconstructions we see, more like Greco-Roman mosaics, Pompeiian frescoes, or Fayum portraits.

The top one's not so bad, the bottom... ewwh. But many of the reconstructions are conjectural, & sometimes there are several different alternative versions, though we're usually only shown one. The wiggle room gives me hope.
