debatable...efforts to evangelize trains on the grounds that they'll make driving easier are misguided at best (the point is to make NOT DRIVING easier) and dishonest at worst (I don't know any city which has solved traffic congestion thru mass transit)

Good point, but car congestion cant really be solved, since the amt of cars expands to fill the roads. You cant really 'solve' congestion. But I suspect better transit will reduce it.

You're correct about the insolubility of car congestion--the role of transit isn't to reduce it (and it doesn't), but to give people a way around it; to make sitting in traffic OPTIONAL instead of mandatory
