I was thinking Red/Blue/Orange lines not Green--similar issues there?

No, they have standard signals that all need upgrading. Also more cars. Red Line has a terminal capacity problem at Alewife due to poor switch layout, not a whole lot you can do there.

Red and Orange are getting new signals but will max out at 21-22 tph. Short stop spacing downtown is a major constraint.

word...how do you guys feel about consolidating Park/DTX and State/GC (the red and blue line parts of them, respectively)

Terrible idea. You'd just condense the mess! The whole point of closer stations is to disperse riders better. They need more TPH to deal with the crowds.

right, but isn't the problem that close stations make higher TPH difficult?

The distance between Park and DTX isn't the problem it's the crowds that keep the trains sitting in the station longer. Having one station instead of two would keep the trains waiting even longer.

Would it be possible to have 4 doors per car side to speed up exiting and boarding though?
