The key is separating the B/C from the D/E. By extending Huntington Av to Brookline and building a Stuart St subway you in effect create two systems, one for high capacity light rail and the other streetcars.pic.twitter.com/F7V5FCa9en

how low capacity are we talking (trains per hour), and is it more a track issue or a signal one
I'll save you from scrolling back but basically there are no signals. They are just streetcars in tunnels. Antiquated terminal designs, mixing light rail with traffic lights, tight curves. The GL is an OLD system.
I was thinking Red/Blue/Orange lines not Green--similar issues there?
Not really, the heavy rail lines actually have true signal systems but they just aren’t up to par but CBTC plans are underway for Red/Orange/Blue but I assume a good ways way still
No reason they can’t do 6 cars with 3 minute headway’s on Blue Line.
they already do 4min headways during rush hour on the blue line right?
Headway’s at peak are every 5 minutes on the Blue Line at peak currently.
