That was a much easier bridge to build. Also both Crockett and Vallejo were sizable towns by then.
ya and it's also a joke to say that a bridge which cuts travel time by 67% is "redundant;" it's a new corridor--redundant would be building a second bridge over the Golden Gate
I mean, YMMV on whether it is redundant or not, quite literally. The better point is that GGB was paid for through tolls, and the fact that there were enough people will to pay the toll suggests it was a useful crossing.
