Any time that we need taxpayer money to function--and even at my most optimistic, I assume PVTA will need *some* subsidy--that money will be subject to endless debates and prone to suddenly disappearing regardless of how many people we're serving...

...whereas any money that comes from the riders themselves--even if it's not 100% of the budget--is money that is OURS, won't be reallocated at a whim, and best of all, increases whenever ridership increases.

PVTA--or any transit provider--only has as much control over its own future as it can earn from its own services. Right now our riders and our staff only have about 16% of a say in our own operation...we should be striving to boost that share as far as possible!
