It's great that the "play" option shows more variety in travel mode, but it's not showing us anything we should change in approach to infrastructure (protip: most of the advantage of walking and biking is that YOU DON'T NEED DEDICATED INFRASTRUCTURE FOR IT)

Why is the transit share so low for play, even lower than for work? Well, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that it's because the transit system is too infrequent for people to use it for spontaneous trips. This is less of a problem for scheduled trips like commuting.

The solution--assuming you want more people to ride transit--is to increase the frequency, maybe retool the network a bit...but the charts do nothing to suggest this course of action.

Absolutely—so my question then becomes, are we doing our best to serve these modes, for these trips? **But** would I be able to ask that question if we (students/volunteers in our community) hadn’t collected that second set of data ourselves?
-
Both good questions--and I'm certainly glad that you collected the data, and hope others follow suit

Our bike/walk/skate infrastructure leaves much to be desired, and it's a perpetual struggle to improve it. If you only look at work trips, you might think no one here walks/bikes--why bother investing in the bike/ped environment?
-
Granted--but at the same time, despite a chronic lack of investment, bike/ped is dominating play trips
