Taking a look at frequencies on the TGV--the busiest is Paris to Lyon, at 23 trips per day, followed by the 16/day routes (Paris to London, Paris to Marseille, and Paris to Lille) Most are much lower frequency, in the single digits. It looks as though branching is an issue here.

Right, they prefer running trains nonstop. Paris-Marseille trains skip Lyon, Paris-Lyon trains don't continue to Marseille.
-
wild--do you know any particular advantages to doing things this way? Is it a necessary consequence of having only partially-exclusive routes (eg, dipping off the HSL to get into downtown stations)?
-
Meh, they built Part-Dieu specifically for better through-service to Marseille. And the schedule padding is a shitshow nowadays.
